Agents of Change: Mediating Minorities (MeM) Project and Concurrent Evaluation Study

Registration

Agents of Change: Mediating Minorities (MeM) is an international project implemented in 2020–2022, which unites five cultural and civil society organizations from Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Sweden. The project is funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe program and lead by the Cultura Foundation. Central to MeM is art mediation as a tool for making societies more open and inclusive. The evaluator of the project Sadjad Shokoohi presents an overview of the results and observations of MeM.

Today more than ever minorities and migrants are connected with multiple crises and are securitised as threats to social cohesion of communities. In her talk, researcher Alina Jašina-Schäfer elaborates on the process of „stranger making“ (including in recent discourses on diversity) and looks at the creative potential of cultural projects like MeM to provide counter-narratives to such practices of “othering”.
